What may Proton referrals program look like

No doubt referral program will be very beneficial for Proton and it allow organic growth over the coming months. This is a great way to drive traffic and new users to Proton Wallet.

Let's take a step back and look at what Metal Pay referral program was. Announced in November 2018, you get $10 worth of MTL when you refer a friend and your friend get the same. Sadly it was decommissioned in late 2020/early 2021. At the time of announcement, MTL was trading at $0.28

From what we know Fred already started work on the referral program earlier this year and have put forward the following proposal:

From this, we can tell that only referrals done through Proton Wallet will qualify. The invite will be sent over email but it could be similar to what Metal had, a unique URL that you can send a friend to sign up.

Now, Fred has departed Metal since but was kind enough to join the telegram group and gave some insight:

We don't know what the payout could be. Looking at Metal, the referral bonus was $10 worth of MTL. It was trading at $0.28 when the program was announced or about 30-35 MTL. Now, Proton is trading at a much lower value at the moment, at 0.004 hence $10 worth of Proton would give you about 2500 XPR. To avoid abuse of the program there could be a requirement for KYC or lock up of XPR for a certain amount of time.

Referral programs are subject to change thus it's very likely to see the payout lowered if there is an excess supply of XPR.

I expect the payout to be the same as Metal ($10) and the referral to be in the form of an email invite or referral URL or you simply put a referral code when you sign up to Proton Wallet.
